The "natural" is much less common than you think. For every math genius, there are 1000 math students studying as hard as they can to succeed. This is a perfect example of how hard work = success.

re: Why are Republicans gullible pyramid scheme dupes?

quote:

You probably are assuming some sort of hard labor, like in the 30's. Hard work also means school. Busting your arse in school, making good grades, getting into college, and choosing a degree that will further your life is an example of hard work. If you want to make money in life, then choose a career field that will make it so. Don't blame society when you get a degree in mass comm, poli sci, general studies, liberal arts, etc... and can't find a job paying 50k/year or more.

Go in engineering, medical, etc... Fields that you know have a future and everyone makes money as long as they are worth a shite.

I only disagree with you on one thing, I would never tell someone to go into a field just because that is where the money is.

What good will someone be in that field if they hate it, not everyone is driven by money. I just believe the pursuit of happiness is greater than money.

The NFL???

You are basing your perception of the American worker on the NFL? What is that, roughly .00001% of the population?

I hope this is just a troll job because you seem to be consumed with jealousy and hatred and that is depressing to see.

We're all dealt different advantages in life, be it physical or societal. You can either complain about the ones you didn't get, or use the ones you did to try to obtain whatever achievement you value in life. No one is guaranteed happiness, only the pursuit of it.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

NFL players are physically gifted as well as hard workers.

Ask Jamarcus Russle or Vince Young if being physically gifted is enough by itself.

It is obvious you have not the first fricking clue of what you are talking about. I mean honestly...you're in here trying to convince people that they shouldn't work hard for what they want? Like it will just magically fall in their lap if they just want it badly enough? Please.

I'm risk adverse too. But i'm not crippled by fear so much, as i will not pass up good career opportunities. When i first graduated college, i moved around freely, going whereever my job took me. After about 3.5 years, i decided i wanted to stay in one place. I have now been settled in BR for nearly 5 years now, just bought a house in November, getting married in July. I am happy where i am, and i consider myself successful. Also, you must decide for yourself, what makes you happy. Does money make you happy? If so, then do what makes you the most money, no matter what. For me it's living comfortably and starting a family. And having a good work/life balance. I have achieved that so far, and hope to continue that, God willing, for the future.

I agree do what you want to do. But don't bitch and complain when your dream of being a millionaire street artist doesn't pan out. Practicality and rationality plays a big part of success. Don't go to college rack up 4+ years of debt with a degree in mass comm. Then come out, don't find a job, and demand your loans be forgiven. You knew the risk you took. You knew jobs in that field are bull shite and nonexistent. College is where you go to get training for a good job. It's not some place to live out your fantasies and then bitch when they don't come true.

Think for yourself and research. You will be happier when you know the end result.

What? I thought this thread was about making money as a measure of "success"? At least that's how you framed the OP and tons of non geniuses have made a bunch of money in this country just on their own hard work

Like has been posted before and I'm sure burns you up, you are guaranteed opportunity not outcome

A pharmaceutical rep? I have no idea. I go into the fields i want to go into. The more i think about it, i would have liked to become a surgeon. Nothing says i couldn't have done that. But that was not my career path when i first entered college. It was only when i was in my late 20's that i thought that would have been a job i would have liked to do. But nothing prevented me from doing that. I chose my profession my sophomore year of college and haven't looked back. And i'm happier for it.

I never realized the American dream had a monetary minimum for success.
