Even if I spoke it, I wouldn't admit it.

Let me tell you what I did for a friend's wedding. 90% of the wedding guests were coming to NOLA from out of town. Myself and other bridesmaids/groomsmen chipped in and we got a room with a balcony on bourbon. The room had a bar in it and we went to the store and bought booze and had bowls of misc stuff like Peanuts or Chexmix around the room. We also bought a box of beads and gave them to people to throw off the balcony. We mailed out invites to everyone about 2-3 weeks before and called it something like a Welcome to NOLA Party. It was held the night before the wedding, right after the rehearsal dinner.

That was a solid play. Maybe not so much on the peanuts and chex mix .. I'd have gone with something a little more substantive, but a really cool idea nevertheless.

I think that's a best idea also. I understand the munchies because everyone there had already had dinner. Some after dinner cheeses might be a good addition for something like that. Sounds like a fun deal for out of town guests.
Might be able to do something like that at the Royal Sonesta. Maybe a few connected hospitality rooms with balconies. Would probably need the hotel to cater if there are no locals. Would be fun to have a caterer being Nola/LA foods in.

I had a cocktail reception for my 50th birthday at Ralph's on the Park. It was great - upstairs room with a balcony that overlooked City Park. In additon to passed appetizers we had carved beef tenderloin and pistolettes for a 'heartier' snack so we didn't get too wasted.

OP, Calcasieu was mentioned before and now as a cocktail party/ rehearsal dinner it's perfect. Big room upstairs will easily fit your party. They can adjust the sizing of the room to make sure it still feels intimate.

yea, but this was at 9pm, which gave most guests time to eat dinner beforehand. The balcony room we used was at the Chateau Sonesta. If we did it again, for another friend's wedding, I plan to look into renting the balcony at My Bar.
