That sounds kind of weird.

I mostly use it in salsa/guacamole and as a garnish for some Indian dishes. Also in chimichurri.

The Cliche is "You either Love it, or You Hate it." I fall into the second part of the Quote.

It's like former Tiger QB Tyler. It's an Herb.

Can't stand it. Even a tiny pinch and it ruins a dish for me. Too powerful and too many people love to go to town using it.

I too have made that mistake. Cilantro gets a big thumbs down from me.

I'm not a fan of cilantro. Tastes like iron, like the taste you get if you cut your gums and taste the blood. That's cilantro. It doesn't appeal to me at all.

Cilantro Haters, It's Not Your Fault

quote:

Some people may be genetically predisposed to dislike cilantro, according to often-cited studies by Charles J. Wysocki of the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia. But cilantrophobe genetics remain little known and aren’t under systematic investigation. Meanwhile, history, chemistry and neurology have been adding some valuable pieces to the puzzle.

The coriander plant is native to the eastern Mediterranean, and European cooks used both seeds and leaves well into medieval times.

Helen Leach, an anthropologist at the University of Otago in New Zealand, has traced unflattering remarks about cilantro flavor and the bug etymology — not endorsed by modern dictionaries — back to English garden books and French farming books from around 1600, when medieval dishes had fallen out of fashion. She suggests that cilantro was disparaged as part of a general effort to define the new European table against the flavors of the old.

Modern cilantrophobes tend to describe the offending flavor as soapy rather than buggy. I don’t hate cilantro, but it does sometimes remind me of hand lotion. Each of these associations turns out to make good chemical sense.

Acquired taste. Used to think it tasted like dishsoap, now love it in salsa.

Too much cilantro is disgusting.

I made a salsa one time and my conversion factor for the cilantro was off. It was absolutely awful. Haven't made that salsa since.

I love it. Lots of people think it tastes like soap.

Some studies indicate this could be relative to some genes. I think you haters got bad genes and us lovers have awesome genes. That's my independent unsolicited non expert but highly reliable opinion.

Not entirely sure how... but I used to HATE it, and now I love it? I guess it changes as you get older... or maybe I've just been accustomed to it being in a lot of foods that I do like, so I guess I just see it as how those things are supposed to taste.

It is an overpowering herb, so when used it should be added to the dish bit by bit to make it not be off the scale.

I love it. But like anything with a strong flavor, a little bit goes a long way.
