Also are there cops everywhere? Cabs available? Limos?
Might as well ask about restaurants in san Fran...we are staying at the intercontinental on hob hill....Chinese? Mexican? And other ethnic options too...
Thank you
Eta: we have 3.5 days in wine country not counting a half day on the way up through Berkeley and a half day on the way down through Sausalito thorn 4 days in san Fran

We are probably going to do Read and either ad hoc or bouchon...
I lost my reservation to French laundry when we change the dates of our trip this weekend so I could squeeze in a business trip.

Will you please go to FreeStone Vineyard and bring me back some FogDog chardonnay and anything else you sample that's good.

ETA: you can also tell them you're going to be around for a few days and ask them to call you if they get a cancellation.

I also recommend the restaurant at Meadowood. Not sure what the tarrif is these days, but that setting and cooking is just a notch below FL, and a great value. I'd put it at #2 among restaurants in the valley behind FL. I also like Bottega, even though Chiarrelo is a tool. Farmstead is also really good. You can't go wrong with Bouchon or Ad Hoc, just make sure you check the menu for Ad Hoc before you go since it's a set menu. It's particularly good for brunch. Also, if you want to take a break from fine dining, I highly recommend Oxbow market. There are some food vendors in there serving up some serioulsy good chow. C Casa in particular was a place I must have visited half a dozen times last time I was in the area. The Fatted Calf is also at Oxbow and worth a visit if you want any charcuterie or a boss porchetta sandwich.
In SF, if you like Italian, Perbacco in the FiDi is my favorite Italian restaurant in the city. That said, I had the pasta tasting menu at SPQR a few months ago and it was probably the best meal I have had this year.

motor boat has a good list.
we also enjoyed prager port in st. helena. small, family-run business. sterling is nice because you take the gondola to the top of the mountain. bella is in sonoma and is cool. part of it is a cave.

go to Benziger in Sonoma if you can, bunch of old hippies. They took us to a bar in downtown Glen Ellen that they take their employees every friday afternoon. We were told "drinks are on us but we have one rule: NO WINE !!!!" awesome people and great wine. In Napa, Franciscan was great , Mondavi was nice but I wouldnt recommend Opus one, very pretentious and overrated........must stop at Oakville Grocery and dont do any research on it beforehand........

My wife and I hired someone to drive us around for a day in the Healdsburg area. I have never been to Napa, but my wife has done Napa and Sonoma and thought Sonoma had less of a touristy feel to it. There are several very nice hotels on the Healdsburg town square. One night a week they have music in the town square and we sat on our balcony with a bottle of wine and it was a cool experience.
I'd highly recommend Gene Warren for your winery tour:

My wife and I had never been in Sonoma and we just told him what types of wine we liked and to concentrate on smaller wineries. He took us to six wineries with our favorite being Robert Young (ask for the cave tour).
In San Fran:
If you are a garlic fan, The Stinking Rose is great. For Chinese Brandi Ho's hit the spot. The fried dumplings are some of the best I've ever had.
I didn't really hit up anything upscale in San Fran as there are to many well priced options that have excellent food.

I work behind the bar at solbar in calistoga. One of the better restaurants in the valley.

I agree with most of the recommendations for Sonoma and Napa, so I'll just throw out some spots in SF.
Swan Oyster Depot - Not fancy, but it's great and just a few blocks from your hotel
La Taqueria and Blue Plate in the Mission District.
House of Nanking and Hunan Homes in Chinatown
Slanted Door is a nice vietnamese place in the Ferry Building. I've been twice...the first time it was awesome, the second time I wasn't impressed
If you're stopping for food in Sausalito, Fish is a really good, laid back restaurant.
If you and your wife like beer and want a break from wine, go to Toronado Pub on Haight.

the best meal we had was possibly some fresh fried calamari we ate on the pier the first night we were there.......paper tray, cocktail sauce and the works......feeling the wind blow and looking out towards Alcatraz is amazing.....

Motorboat- what did you think of ZuZu?
We really liked it but it was a bit pricey. We ordered about 10 tapas
Overall wife and I liked Sonoma better. Highly recommend Bezinger for a full tour. Also St Francis was really neat. Napa is very good but more commercial and upscale. We felt Sonoma had more a true wine country feel and was less corporate
