Pornography threads were never allowed either, but you seem to overlook that little fact.

The existence of a mandate that prohibits certain material from being posted doesn't mean there isn't an appropiate board available to host such material, it simply means there's a policy in place that prevents the material from being submitted.

Actually that is exactly what it means. Religious threads were posted on two boards and the admins decided that neither board were appropriate.

If health/fitness threads were prohibited from being discussed, it wouldn't mean there wasn't an appropiate board for that material, it would simply mean that a policy has been put in place that precludes such material from being discussed.

Luckily for you they haven't been. And you would also seem to agree that an appropriate board already exists for hosting such threads. So congratulations.

have we come up with any good guideline ideas?

I say threads that are just flame threads, like a thread just to point out the sex abuse crisis, or some joke about atheists or something should be ban.

keep personal attacks to a minimum.

plus the general guidelines for the board.

I would also say have a rule that the title thread must atleast hint at what the thread is about, and then in the OP post, have a decent explanation of why you want to start this thread.

lets say you want to talk about some big catholic news story or some big atheist news story. You post a title that hints at the article, and have a couple of quoted paragraphs.

lets say you want to discuss a philosophical idea, like do humans have soul. Give a little summary to start, or ask a question which can be intellectually discussed.

any other ideas.

You have the theists, who enjoy genuine discussion of religion and want to openly engage in conversation on various religious topics without arguing with other users.

You have the avid atheists who seek out and destroy any thread pertaining to religion in an effort to humiliate the religious posters and establish intellectual dominance.

One thing the board would be great for would be threads like: "This is Christianity: In my opinion - please clarify"

Threads like "this is what I believe" in the subject title is not sufficient' say something specific

Otherwise, treat it as an "Enter at your own risk" and let it go for the most part.

agreed, too hard to legitimately police a board with such polarizing views and agendas.

-enter at your own risk on the new board.
-prayer request threads can stay on the ot.

This is correct, and is precisely my point. There isn't an appropriate board for pornography because such threads are disallowed, not unlike religious threads.

But that doesn't justify the implementation of a board exclusive to such material.

The difference being, religious threads have a precedent here. Pornography does not.

If religious topics do not merit their own board, then health, science, fitness, etc. threads certainly do not considering they already have a home.

mr chicken, could you poll the political board to see if they want religion moved.

I seem to remember that many were upset when you said no Jesus on the Poli, but now you don't want it next to WYHIs.

I do not see the Religious topics show up that often, so why do you want to segregate the subject? I do not believe that a God board would garner any traffic long-term, but even if it were to do so, and draw other religious people to your site, I'm not so sure they would be able to get along with your "Other" board members.

Your site, your decision, but I think you are only diluting your core competency.

Would this apply to other topics that have precedence on this site?

Would it follow that if Facebook threads were arbitrarily disallowed, that a dedicated board to discuss that topic would be fully justified?

All the wowyhi threads must be on par with Einstein's theories on quantum physics.

If Facebook threads drew the type of following that religious threads did then you might have a point, but they haven't. Also there was never a board dedicated to discussing Facebook issues, that's not the case for religious threads which had a home on the Poliboard (the caption of which specifically mentioned religious topics).

I don't know why you seem to have a problem with a Religion board when you apparently think topics like science and technology deserve their own board simply because they are popular topics. Using your own criteria a Religion board is more than appropriate.
