Chicken. I see what you're doing and I like you're style. Create a new board and let them run wild. People who don't want to look at it don't have to. People who are offended will just avoid it if they can't handle it. Turn off the whole RA system for said board, that way only the people who can handle it will enter it. If you're so weak as to get offended you shouldn't be debating it anyway. What's the point of debating something if you aren't willing to learn anything or gain insight from it. Follow in our governments footsteps. FREEDOM OF RELIGION (or lack of). Seems to have worked out ok in 'merica. Let's it run it's course here

You have the theists, who enjoy genuine discussion of religion and want to openly engage in conversation on various religious topics without arguing with other users.
Sorry. I disagree. I believe the theists try to stifle any discussion where they have to defend their beliefs. I don't see many atheists complaining about religion topics. There may be one or two but the majority of atheists like such topics and are not the ones claiming that they need to be moved to another board or deleted.

It's okay.. sorry for jumping down your throat.

If my "Jesus was gay?" thread was the last straw and leads to us getting a Religion and Philosophy board, no one would be happier than I would be.

I've had many healthy dialogues about religion on the Poli Board. I was an agnostic most of my life and only recented converted to Catholicism. I have a very open mind and am willing to entertain anyone else's arguments regarding religion or philosophy.

Yeah, I might engage in a little flaming and trolling here and there. Let those of you without sin cast the first stone!

But I would be very sad the temporary ban on religious topics became permanent.

However, I am sorry the religious topics have become such a pain in the arse for the admins. I think, however, that is largely because people don't want to see religion clogging up the OT or the Poli Board.

We should at least give a Religion/Philosophy board a trial run and see how it works out.

I would like for there to be strong guidelines established upfront to prevent the recent trend that I have been seeing in religious threads...

I recommend strong guidelines to prevent unwanted trends.

Seriously, religion is something that can be taken very personally. Guidelines should be established to show at least some degree of respect for people of differing views.

We could self-police the board somewhat, like on the recruiting board. But there needs to be a point when Admins can step in to stop trolling on both sides.

I can't think of a worse job than having to mod that board.

I still don't understand why people who are offended and complain about religion threads click in them and then post.

Kinda odd to coddle a group that could help themselves just by not clicking.

Maybe a PM telling them to stop being a puss and not click when they know they are going to get pissy.

Don't coddle

I agree.

But if there isn't a threat, they don't have to establish any defense. I think posters like TulaneLSU, catholictigerfan, and others genuinely enjoy discussing the workings of the church, various biblical passages, and so forth...as evidenced by the Daily Bible threads.

Quite honestly, though, we shouldn't even be having this conversation. Religion threads were posted on PT, and did fine. All of this conversation is erupting from a series of changes that shouldn't have occurred in the first place.

I think that religious threads did okay on the poliboard, where they could be great with it's own board and structure to the debates.

You'd have to pay someone a bajillion dollars to be an admin for that board.

I'm staying out of this one.

TulaneLSU and Wiki can represent for this cause well enough.
