Is there any consensus on these? I see them show up in a bunch of photos. I alway pass on them unless someone in the blind promises to take them.
If you do shoot them, how do you prepare them?

Unless we are wearing out mallards or greys early we will generally shoot them. I don't eat them though. I usually find a brother who will take them.

I will not shoot them generally. My last hunt I did take two but I stuck them in the freezer to help train my dog.

One thing for sure, you never miss a spoonie.
I do not shoot unless nothing else is flying, then only for gumbo.

Ag fields? I will let them fly if we are wearing them out. If not, I'll harvest them and eat'em up like I would any other duck.
Marsh? They get a pass.

Our book shows 15 harvested out of 488 n 1st split.
We try not to take them.... Or, atleast most of us do

Bust em they taste just like any other puddle duck.

breast them & make duck bombs. I always end up with 20-25 after the season at the camp. Makes great tailgate food.

I expected bombs and gumbo would be hits with them.

Dumbest birds in the marsh:
1. Coot
2. Comerat
3. Smiling mallard

I am not a duck hunter but was told last week they are a trash duck. When I took pics to send to my co workers that duck hunt my friend said "aw crap they are going to think we are proud of killing spoon bills"

Typically I don't shoot spoonies on purpose. Occasionally there is one of those hunts where we shoot them if it's the only thing flying. Always donate them to Leroy and Pookie in the event they are killed.

It has to be reallllllllllllllly slow.

They really don't taste as good. We lay off of them unless if there is nothing flying at all. Fried or in a gumbo they aren't terrible, but what isn't.

The neighborhood I live in has three large oxidation ponds, as of right now there are probably 400 spoonies snacking turds on them.

You could cook a wolf penis like this and it would taste good.
