They eat your rice too, and somebody needs to kill some of them. We pass on them unless it's slow and just one of those rare days that they need a beat down. One thing that always happens is that you never miss when shooting at a spoony, even a long passing shot.

Funny how that always happens, and that group that always cups up while you are taking a piss with no shotgun.

I think spoonies are fine in the rice fields. I would not shoot the in the marsh.

Took a dude hunting with us once, lit a bunch of spoonies and scaupies. We let em pass becasue you could only kill 3 ducks period. The new dude says, you don't shoot these ducks. We said no, wait to see if some better tasting ducks come in. After about 5 bunches land, the dude says, you know a few of those would taste pretty good in a gumbo. We let him limit out.

I will not burn powder on Smiling Mallards. Instant ridicule in my hunting circle.
Worse than shooting a duck on the water IMO...

Rice field spoonies taste fine to me, any way I've tried to cook them.
Like any other duck, it is mostly about the prep. I breast, soak in salted water 24 hrs, freeze. Soak again before cooking.
They aren't teal or woodies, but they are as good as anything else where I hunt. So I shoot'em unless I'm trying to get a brag bag when the mallards are flying.

Never shoot them. Always considered them shite ducks.

Ringnecks are OK but Dos Gris are not. Too hard to tell the difference on the wing, so it is a 'no shoot' for me.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Ringnecks

Where we hunt big mouth mallards taste fishy. They are a pass. We let kids shoot them only if nothing else is flying.

I don't shoot Smileys unless its super slow. If I did I would probably cook them like any other duck.
Ringnecks, usually the same.
I don't shoot Mallard hens either. I always have to bite my tongue when someone starts bragging about slaying the mallards, then they show me a pic of about 50% mallard hens

Please enlighten me; what are "duck bombs"? Would love a recipe!

Ringnecks are like little butterball ducks!

Let the women & kids practice as long as no other ducks are flying.

we hunt em only rice fields and dont shy away from the spoons; the only duck that's better to eat than a spoony in my opinion are greenwings

We shoot and eat spoonies in the rice field and will in the marsh too if its early in the season. Late they can get a bit "fishy". But you can't tell a difference early on.
