Brag pointed this place out to me. They just created their Facebook page 10 hours ago so it must be a new place.

Here is a link to their page:

Looks to be a very serious attempt at bringing good food to that part of town.

I think so too! I'm starving. It's the wrong time for me to be looking at these.

Oh, Glass you would have just LOVED the meal I chose for my birthday in Vegas. It was outstanding.

It doesn't look like my kind of place, but I welcome them downtown. The more the merrier. I do find their secluded location odd. The backside of 2 City Plaza isn't exactly the most high traffic place downtown.

They have very few friends on their Facebook page, so I'm really hoping they do some advertising and get people to recognize them.

The only reason I knew it was back there is because I cut through there sometimes. I just happened to catch their liquor application in the window.

Baton Rouge Business Report May 24, 2011:

Ciao, Zolia: Louis DeAngelo and Mike Wampold are set to open a bistro and wine bar in the II City Plaza office building by mid-July. Zolia will be a casual, upscale Italian bistro and wine bar, which will be open for breakfast and lunch and offer Italian-style tapas and antipasto selections in the evening. The restaurant will be open Monday through Friday and on weekends for special events. DeAngelo says he came up with the idea for the restaurant four years ago and started talking last year about going in the building with Wampold, who developed II City Plaza. "I've admired Mike's business and community leadership for quite some time, and when the idea for us to collaborate on the project came up, it felt right," DeAngelo says.

It's downtown. Runs through all the major roads you probably know.

I was just at the bank and saw Zolia was now open. I take back my earlier statement about it not being my kind of place. Smelled delicious. I browsed the menu and it looked pretty good, but didn't have time to eat. Maybe next week.

I'm compelled to try it from the photos alone. Everything looks fantastic, except for those hideous rummage sale plates that's utilized in every dish.

I've been and they have some major kinks to work out. It took forever, had my order lost, and it was smokey as all get out in there. Manager came by and supposedly will make it right. Classy move. Still, know there are serious growing pains going on right now.

Obviously, they get a pass on account of it being their first week or so, but I am going to let them guinea pig some others before I go again. Food was decent, but nothing incredible in my estimation.

Can't smoke in a restaurant.

With places like this I live by Fitzmorris' rule of open six months before I try it.

Pictures are pretty but I'm sure google could find me a pretty picture of a DeAngelos pizza.

Having said all that, I hope and wish them well. Mike Walmpold has deep pockets and what the hell he's not paying rent so maybe the place will get some legs and work out nicely. This could help Stroubes by adding some competition and since my waiter the other night was a bit of a lazy arse I need an option.
