Who is checking it out tonight?!? I know the board enjoys the man even more than the music

Aw shoot, too bad we don't have HBO.

I don’t know anything about him, not my thing, but why does everybody hate him?

Jokes, and y’alls hate, aside - have made a good dent in it and it’s well done, and there’s no preaching. I’m enjoying so far.

I think a lot of people here like his music.
But people here seem to dislike him because his politics are left of center, he is fairly vocal about it and most people these days (on both sides) can’t handle people having differing views from them.

You're close, at least for me.
I think you should put your politics right there in your music, do it well, whatever they are. If you've got no politics at all, make sure that's in your music too.
Don't go explaining it and go acting like you're Woody Guthrie.

Just finished watching
Didn’t get any politics at all
it was a very personal look at alot of his issues
People complain about him being “cucked” by his wife, but it sure seems like she may have saved his life, and he knows it and appreciates it
“Why are you the way you are?” This doc says, “here’s why”
I love his music and enjoyed the doc

His voice is weak and he likes to sing about killing babies.

Guess you’re not a Ben folds fan either?

I've liked his songs for a long time, even if I don't agree with content. I can still appreciate something well done.
Adopt Dylan's attitude : I'm just a song and dance man".

I’ll echo a few points-
Zero politics in it really (not overtly)
I agree with you on his dynamic with Amanda
I thought the film did well going back through his youth and DBT days and landing with him at a crossroads of “nothing else matters if I can’t do my music and here I am in lockdown unable to do it
Interesting reframing of cover me up that I won’t spoil
I thought they were incredibly gracious to both his relationship and Amanda to not press on some of her stuff and let him carry the burden of being the stressor in the relationship. At some point if fully objective they probably needed to ask her a few of those “are you insecure being in the shadows” as she tries to manage her band leader in his workspace. It really was 100% how does he bug you and how do you save him from himself.
Musically and actual studio and live content was fantastic. It keyed in much more on the songs of family and relationships- dreamsicles feature was fantastic.

He is a bit heavy handed in putting his opinions and politics out front.
Won’t make me stop listening. He’s still a good singer and great songwriter who actually plays his guitar. Well.
During Bro Country it’s great. I’m for anything not currently on the radio.

having differing views from them
People were fine with it. Then one side started actively censoring and getting the other cancelled. Now it's game on.
Isbell is notable because he grew with, no doubt, more left of center views but amped that up to racial attacks, lecturing his audience and making a big covid fuss, so a lot of people grew tired of him. The Bono effect, if you will.

Thought it was well produced, but it caught him a few years after what I think was the most interesting couple of years.
Reunions was fine but his records since Southeastern have steadily declined each time IMO. Still good stuff, but could have been better timing.

As the dad of 2 daughters watching him sing “Letting you go” hit me pretty hard. I was right there with all the other dads in the studio getting choked up

I thought that for a bit too when I heard it was announced but I think being on the other side instead of mid chaos probably made for a much better narrative piece.

I just couldn’t shake the sense that Amanda felt like Yoko Ono just hanging around. Looked like the other band members didn’t even speak to her.

Other side of the coin…fair point
