That song he and his wife so proudly wrote about the abortion they had for the sake of convenience was so awesome!

So it’s been bouncing on the back of my head that southeastern was likely the last ge really wrote solo… and ignoring you guys Pearl clutching the content- the thing I’ve felt on most albums since is that they can be a bit overwritten. Not sure if it’s the right word but fewer of the casual turns of phrases and more of the really put together ones? Their debate on the perfect tense made me wonder if some of those have been getting workshopped out academically

That number is way too high.

But that depends on the genre.

classic liberals like Steve Earle

I know this wasn’t the point of your post, but Steve Earle’s political views make Isbell look like Kid Rock. Dude is waaaayyy left. I listened to an interview he did around the ‘20 election and he was saying that the government should control all education and private schools should be outlawed.

I think you’re probably correct with your assessment.

I’ll add, not directed specifically toward you, that choosing to let his opinions bother you is just that, a choice you make.

While his last couple albums haven't been masterpieces, there are still a lot of quality songs sprinkled in that I consider up there with some of his best like If We Were Vampires, Last of My Kind, and Only Children. And lots of other "good" songs on those albums.

Agreed.

Even if Twitter didn’t exist and he never discussed politics, a lot of the shine from Southeastern has worn off.

Dude can still write a good song, they just get lost in the shuffle of not only his politics, but the albums themselves.

he also hated all the covid laws. he hated Trump but also said the Dems should realize why blue collar Americans were voting for him and the American left has lost touch with the American people
He's a Bernie Sanders liberal while Isabell is a Pelosi lib

they skew left but the percentage is probably way closer to 50-20-20

You just think the percentage is higher because all the most outspoken ones are crazy progressive loons

I thought it was pretty boring, honestly.

She gave off weird, controlling vibes and hiding behind those toilet seat sunglasses made her look insecure. The rest of the band seemed scared of her, but not the male producer.

But hey, if that’s what he likes.

Steve Earle self-described his political views as somewhere “left of Mao.”

He is a true socialist commie which I detest but respect whereas Isbell is a SJW self-hating cucked douche with a very weak voice married to an abortatron- nothing redeeming about him.

I am A big fan but idk if I’ll ever have the time to sit down and watch it.

My viewing is extremely limited these days with a kid who doesn’t seem to need sleep.

That being said the man is an Americana Bruce Springsteen probably one of the best song writers of the last 15 years.

People can’t handle him being liberal.

I don’t understand blaming Amanda Shires. He wasn’t exactly Toby Keith when he was with DBTs.

Oh wow you mean his 9th solo album isn’t as good as Southeastern?

No shite.

But there are song on all his albums as good as anything he’s ever written. And he’s one of the best song writers of the last 15-20 years.
