Do any of you divorced baws, who have a decent relationship with your ex, still tap it from time to time?

Also, I heard that when the marriage is in its death throws, the wife goes into "porn star" mode to save it, true?

Ok folks, who’s gotten a divorce with minor children. How was your experience dealing with lawyers, custody, and financial support. I (male) filed and merely want equal custody and not to be completely screwed financially. Just want to end things as easy as possible and not fight over things. Primary bread winner by a long shot but STBX works as well and minor child is in full time child care. Marriage was approximately 8 years.

Thanks for triggering my PTSD from divorce 12 years ago.

That should tell you what's in store for you.

keep the house at all costs. Your child will be much better off in a familiar environment on the days you have him. It gives you the upper hand psychologically

Are you telling me you filed first and then thought to ask these questions?

shite man. I paid 1200/month child support for my daughter that turned 18 in 2014. For the first 3 years, I was also paying 650/month in spousal support. 1850/month for a former spouse and 1 child was insane.

When it all ended in 2014, I was "rich".

I said it once and I’ll say it again. I should have been a divorce attorney.

Yep. Whatever tactic he “employs” will be linked back to this thread.

“This is all a sham and he never acted this way or did those things before making a thread on social media asking for tips to “game the system”

If this isn’t a troll, OP potentially fricked himself big here.

I know a bitch that left her husband at 9.5 years and got mad when her husband signed the papers the day before their 10th wedding anniversary.

You’re screwed. Depending on the state you may be really screwed and in some states you’re really screwed without lube.

Imagine being a black man accused of taping a pretty white girl in the south in the 1940s. He has more hope than you.

Don’t over simply the lengths of effort, skill, and complexity some women are able to put into conning men into believing that they are a suitable partner.

I screened mine for years before we decided to get married. The minute the contract was signed, the leverage I had to be able to quickly walk away evaporated and the motivation for her to continue to provide actual value disappeared. It was a slow progression, but I quickly began to see her true character reveal its ugly self.

I have enough self awareness to admit I missed or looked past a lot of red flags that later surfaced. That is my cross to bear.

The best conclusion I can come to as to why we ultimately got married is that she was the person I was with when I decided I was ready to settle down. Looking back on it now, I wish I would have accepted that she likely was not going to be a good partner and walked from her. But I was ready to be a father and rationalized that she would grow out of all of the small things I knew were toxic.

I passed on a lot of really good women during my younger years when I wasn’t ready to settle down. I won’t make that mistake again.

I am baffled at the choices people make and how that is illustrated on this board.

My divorce was somewhat amicable. She got half of everything, including visitation. Because I had the better job, the kids stayed on my healthcare insurance. Be sure to boot her off as soon as you’re allowed. Also, if you have more than one kid, get the youngest one named as “yours” to claim as a dependent so you get max benefit.

Over the years, she’s become less and less involved as a parent. She moved into a one bedroom apartment because she realized she’ll never be able to retire. It took 2 days of visitation for the kids to mutiny and stay with me permanently. She’s fine with that because it gives her total freedom. She got married again but the guy died and she has a serious relationship with a loser. Add in a couple of live-in boyfriends along the way and I know the kids are better off with me. She lives 2 miles away but takes the kids to dinner maybe twice a week. That’s fine with me.

The youngest will barely talk to her even though I’ve never said a negative thing about her. Kids have ears and eyes - they figure it out.

Never did, but we came close one time after a party we were both at. She’s re-married now so no chance, not that I want one. That ship sailed a long time ago.

Didn’t happen for me.The last time we had sex was the night before she filed for divorce.

Dealing with lawyers is not the lawyer. Dealing with the ex is the problem.

Your divorce sounds similar to mine. He got half of everything and promptly blew it all. Got 50/50 custody too.

I now have all the kids and he talks to them on the phone occasionally.
