No. 5 LSU Women's Basketball Drops Road Game At No. 4 Texas, 77-64

AUSTIN, TX – The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team fell to the fourth-ranked Texas, 77-64, on Thursday night inside the Moody Center.
The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 8 to face Auburn. The game will tip off at 1:00 p.m. CT inside Neville Arena in Auburn, Alabama.
With the loss, LSU drops to 21-3 overall, while Texas improves to 22-2 on the season.
LSU got the scoring started with a layup from Grace Knox. The first half was closely fought as teams exchanged baskets. The Tigers held the lead throughout the second period, but Texas gained the lead with a layup from Teya Sidberry at 1:32 remaining to push the Longhorns into the 40- 36 advantage over LSU at the half. The Tigers shot 41.7 percent on 15-of-36 shots. Texas shot 51.4 percent on 18-of-35 shots from the field. Both teams knocked down three treys. LSU dominated in the paint, owning 20 points to Texas’ 12. LSU tallied 24 rebounds to Texas’ 15.
Texas turned it up a notch in the second half to pull away. The Longhorns outscored the Tigers 37-28. Texas had a 12-1 lead half way through the fourth quarter. They went on a 11-0 run to gain a 14-point lead (67-53) over LSU. LSU sank two treys to Texas’ one. LSU recorded 10-of-24 (41.7%) field goals and Texas had 10-of-31 shots for 32.3 percent.
Mikaylah Wiliams led the Tigers in scoring with 20 points on 7-of-11 shots and three treys. Flau’Jae Johnson also scored double digits with 11 points on 3-of-14 shots from the field.
The Longhorns were led by Madison Booker with 18 points on 6-of-21 shots.
