Multiple sources have reported that NC State is hiring Tennessee assistant coach Justin Gainey as its next head coach.
Gainey played at NC State from 1996–2000 and spent the last five seasons on Rick Barnes’ staff, playing a key role in Tennessee’s rise, including multiple deep NCAA Tournament runs and a reputation as a strong recruiter and defensive-minded coach.
Gainey will replace Will Wade, who departed Raleigh last week for the LSU job.
