Merino wool socks. Costco has em at a good price.
Decent bibs. You can find them in the $80-$100 range on places like "The Clymb"
Nice layering up top. Wicking base, light intermediate layer (fleece works) and a water resistant heavier shell. Native makes good goggles.
Don't need to spend big bucks if you're an occasional or one time skier. There are boatloads of people who hang around ski resorts in $1500 worth of gear who have no intention of hitting the slopes and they stick out like a sore thumb.
