"Nothing Crazy" Laptop Recommendation

I've had my 15" MacBook Pro since 2012. It's been great, getting my through college, and now serving more as the Youtube, read this, pay that bill, daily computer, but its performance is starting to peter out.....not bad to snag 8 years from this bad boy. What are some recs for laptops to pick up - I don't plan on doing anything 'intense' like regular video editing, music, coding. - just the day to day
Was looking at the new MacBook Air or a Surface Laptop 3, but any other models to take a look at? Budget: around $1k or less. TIA

Both are fantastic. It just depends on which OS suits your needs better. The wife and I use a Surface Laptop 3 at home, and it's been fantastic. A Macbook is a Macbook, and you can trust that they're going to perform as expected. The Macbook will obviously run you a little bit more $, so plan accordingly.

I had a MacBook about the same age and recently switched back to a PC and for a thinkpad off Amazon for about 700-800 bucks. It’s been great and I’m thinking of switching all my office computers from desktops to the same thinkpads
