Need some help with 4K fire stick

My dog chewed up my fire stick remote and rather than just ordering a new remote for a 4 year old fire stick I thought I’d get the latest and greatest. I ordered the 4K not really thinking and my TV is about 6 years old and not 4k. So I was having some issues where the video would seem to lag behind and jump to catch up. Obviously it was driving me nuts so I googled and it said to change the resolution on the fire stick. It was set at 2160 100hz. I changed this to 1080p 24hz. But now the quality is just shite. When watching YouTube, when a scene changes the video gets grainy like it’s slow to building the image on the screen. Not sure if that makes sense. So my question is, if there is a way to set the optimal resolution, how do I find out which one? None of the 1080p seem to work. Should I send this back and get just the HD version. TIA

Time to get a 4k TV. It's worth the investment

Get you a 4k TV baw. You can get a serviceable 65-75 inch for less than 800$

If the picture is lagging, it might be your internet.

That doesn't sound right. If the fire stick was trying to force a 4k signal, you probably would have had a blurry mess. I would just leave that setting on Auto. The fire stick should be able to tell what resolution and refresh rate your TV is capable of and choose the appropriate setting.
If you have to choose I would pick 1080p 60hz. 24hz would be used primarily for movies, assuming your TV is capable of displaying 24 fps.
If that doesn't improve the picture then it's probably related to your internet or the stick connecting to your router.

I'm sure this has probably been resolved, but if it hasn't, make sure you're changing the streaming resolution, and not your devices resolution.
