I have an Axis Q1765-LE.

Tried connecting it to an existing NVR (Lorex) under Onvif protocol, but it doesn't recognize it.

Can I connect it without NVR?
What NVR can I buy that will work with it and still be economical (read: cheap).

Update:

Got a POE+ switch, used a wired connection on a laptop and was able to have it recognized through Axis' Network Utility App.

Had to reset camera due to issues with user name / password, but after that was able to access live view and all settings.

Thinking about using a PC w/ Blue Iris to handle recording and remote viewing next. Plus, if I go that route I can add even more cameras to my already extensive coverage. I have a problem .

Also, the 18x optical zoom in this thing is ridiculous!

Check the network settings on the camera.

Some cameras may default to a different IP range that your others cameras are on. While some others may use DHCP. Some times they will print this on the camera or box.

For example if your cameras and DVR are in the 192.168.1.x range, and your new camera is 10.1.10.x. They will not connect.

In order to change, you will need a computer and set a static IP in the range of camera, and then you log in to the camera and change the IP address to one that is in the same range as the other cameras. Also, check the ports that the camera uses. Different manufacturers may use different ports.

You will then need to remove the static IP on your computer and the search again on the DVR. If necessary, add the port information and maybe do a manual scan.

Now that you mention it, the new camera did show up in the 10. range. how can I connect the camera to a computer? it's a POE camera and the network switch I have for internet doesn't provide power.

Have you even read the instructions?

Axis is owned by Canon. This is a link to download Canon's camera management tool. It helps you set up your cameras.

No, I just started plugging cables into random shite and pressing buttons like a caveman hoping it would magically work.

But really, the instructions are useless for trying to link the camera with another brand NVR. They have detailed diagrams on how to mount it though, so when that time comes itll be able to withstand a direct hit from a tornado.

Good luck trying to read and understand. They are littered with errors as though they are copy and paste Google translations.

Going back to the fix if you haven’t got it working yet with the scan program.

Plug your computer on the same network switch as the camera if possible. Go to your network adapter Settings. Click properties, and go to IP4 settings. Change the IP address from DHCP to Static, and pick an address near the same as the camera. So if the camera is 10.1.10.85, use 10.1.10.86.

Now you should be able to log into the camera by using Internet Explorer by typing in the address in the URL. Yes internet explorer, and go through the song and dance of installing an Active X plunging. These can be pain as they don’t get them signed and you have to force it to install.

Once logged in you can go into the settings of the camera and change cameras IP address to an address similar to your other cameras. So if your cameras use IP addresses 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.116, You can put the new camera as 192.168.1.117. Or use DHCP.

Save the new settings and let the camera reboot, and it should be now in the range of the other cameras.

Make sure to put you computer back in DHCP mode.

You can also download some software called Advanced Port Scanner to see if your computer can see the new camera.
