Microphone and Speaker Suggestions

My group does a couple of functions a year and whenever it's a hall that doesn't have a speaker system, we end up renting (which is pissing me off).
For a room the dimensions of a basketball court, 100 or so people, what would you recommend? Dinner crowd, so something loud enough to quiet people down.
Looking in the $200 to $250 range for a mic and speaker system.

We use a block rocker portable/rollable speaker from Amazon.
Bluetooth to phone for speaker.
Plug the mic in if we want to use it.
Works great.
