Kid wants to design sports cards

Help!!

I come as green as can be when it comes to this concept.
As the topic says my 10 year old asked me to help him start making his own sports cards.
He is artistic. He can draw, color and is quite creative.
My question is where do I go now? How do we put ideas onto canvas?
What is a good printer for this? What is good software? What is good quality materials? Do we have the cut these to size after?

We are both avid collectors of modern sports cards. Soccer, Pokémon and Baseball.
