icloud removal from iphone 6

bought a phone and the previous owner had not removed their icloud. They gave me password to try but they couldn't remember the correct one, any solutions on removing their acct to download mine?
I asked them to get on one of their other devices and reform the device I purchased but they claim all I have to do is factory reset ??

Just factory reset and be done with it.
