Help with Surround sound system to TCL TV

I have an old Bose 321 that I am trying to hook up to a TCL TV in one of my bedrooms and am having no luck. It's connected via optical cable as the Bose doesn't have HDMI. I have tv speaker off and audio output set to optical source...anyone have a clue what could/couldn't be happening?
