Same here. I'm ready to ditch directv. I'm going to test an antenna in my attic this weekend. I have a radiant barrier over most of my house but my gables don't. If my signal is strong enough that I can get the local stations, I'm going to buy a bolt and give it a try for the 30 day free trial period.
Basically, if you have a receiver, in my weeks worth of analyzing the cord cutting situation, you have the following options for OTA service:
1) Get an HD HomeRun device or a TiVo device to play nicely with your Receiver.
2) Wire the HD antenna to your TV and then run a digital cable from TV to receiver.
Those are apparently the 2 easiest options, that I've run across.

My tvs are new and have tuners built in. IF I make the switch the I'll probably just run straight from the antenna to the built in tuners in my office and guest rooms. I'll have a Tivo Bolt and mini in the living room and master bedroom respectively.

You don't have this setup, yet, do you? Curious what you think about it if so?

Sorry, reading comprehension failure on my part. Let me know if you do go this route.

> Make sure you get the Extend and not the Connect. Apple tv devices don't have MPEG2 decoders and the Extend will convert the OTA MPEG2 streams to MPEG4.
While its true that the Apple TV does not have a hardware MPEG2 decoder, it can software decode the MPEG2 in cpu perfectly fine. This is how Channels works.
Channels supports the Extend and it's different transcoded profiles, but it supports the raw MPEG2 that comes from the Extend and every other HDHomeRun that exists.
So, if you want the full uncompressed raw signal, Channels will play it just fine.

for your info:
this is a link to an article talking about the apple tv "channels" app.
review of channels app
there's information in it that I wasn't aware of, like pausing live tv.

Oh wow, that HDHomeRun Extender + Channels app looks downright amazing now. I'll need to see if I even miss the DVR service first.
Honestly, my biggest concern is maxing out my 250gb of internet a month and getting hit with an overage charge. Currently ATT doesn't even allow you to monitor where you are in terms of data for internet.
