Chromebook with usb c

Anyone have a Chromebook with a USBC for charging and video output. I purchased a USBC dock from Amazon and it only worked once. Went to Best Buy and purchase just a USBC to HDMI adapter and it seems to be very finicky as well. Just wondering if anybody else had the same experience or if I'm just purchasing the cheap stuff and need to move up to higher quality.

USBc charges my phone in less than an hour.
