Crawfish boil
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 4/19/26 at 11:42 am
My favorite spot for crawfish closed two weeks ago and I’ve spent that time sampling other places around Houston/Galveston with no luck.
I like it kinda trashy I guess. Sunny D+ garlic + all the spices and liquid at the bottom. So I’ve purchased the setup to do myself.
Anyone have a good “ghetto” style recipe for crawfish that they are willing to share step by step with a newbie? I follow Chef Jay Voo on Insta and seems like what I’m looking for but he doesn’t detail how to purge, soak, times, etc.

Has anyone done this? It is recommended by my doc on my face to treat a dozen or more precancerous lesions. The photos on line look pretty brutal but I don’t know anyone else that had it personally. I’m curious about the pain and the visible recovery time. I have a pretty full schedule this month and not looking forward to looking like raw meat.

I’ve been twice this season. (Last night was Chris Stapleton) and I am not the only one that has noticed a HUGE amount of black population attending the carnival. It was so packed it was hard to walk around the grounds of NRG. And a very ratchet crowd at that. Someone was twerking ontop of a John Deer. Asses hanging out. Crappy pink hats and trashy clothes. What happened?? I’ve been going for 30 years. I’ve noticed the past 2-3 that there is a significant change in the demographic.

What will happen when Whites are in the minority in 2045?
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 2/4/26 at 7:11 am
honest question. What will happen to special privileges bestowed upon minority groups? The sanctioned collectivism, the scholarships, the social credits, political carve outs, special spaces, parades/celebrations, anthems, extra public education dollars, awards...
Will these privileges continue when this country is Majority-Minority?

Uber/Lyft question
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 1/19/26 at 1:43 pm
How come when you request a ride and it says your car is 8 minutes away, does it take 30 minutes to arrive? Not a rhetorical question. I’m really curious how this happens when my own GPS takes into account traffic, road closures,etc.. and pretty much nails my arrival time to the minute..is Uber intentionally deceiving customers or is something happening on the drivers’ end that they can accept a ride when they still have 15 mins left on their current ride?

TV dialogue sounds garbled …
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 7/18/25 at 10:47 pm
First time posting on tech board.
I have a TV (Samsung TV/Onkyo Receiver) that came with a vacation home we just purchased. Not my setup. I’ve noticed it’s hard to understand the dialogue on the TV even when the volume is up. It’s like the dialogue is muffled or indistinct inspite of being loud. It’s not just me, caught my teen and her friends with the CC on just so they could follow a show.
I seem to remember a long time ago reading it could be a sound setting ( like surround sound, when supporting speakers aren’t present ).
Thoughts appreciated.

Inheriting a mentally disabled sibling
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 6/26/25 at 6:23 am
My parents are in their 80’s and declining quickly. They are currently caring for my big brother (55) who after 30 years of hard drugs, alcohol, huffing, and homelessness has managed to almost completely fry his brain. He has bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, is deaf, mostly toothless and lives like a hermit in their basement. Making things more complicated, he lives in Missouri and will remain there because it is fairly generous with its benefits compared to Texas where I am.
Has anyone here ever had to manage a dependent sibling from afar? Any advice, legal, emotional, logistical or otherwise?
Lord help me I have already raised three kids and I don’t know if I have the energy for this.

ADHD and clutter
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 6/11/25 at 7:29 am
Are there any nonADHD spouses out there who have created a good way to manage their ADHD spouses clutter?
My husbands method for “remembering” things is to leave stuff on counters, desks, surfaces, etc. the problem with this method is many layers build up and stuff on the bottom gets missed, goes unpaid..We had “cubby holes” built into the kitchen for mail labeled: taxes, bills, renewals, but he gets really pissed off when I file papers accordingly.
His system isn’t working for us and I refuse to live in a mess.

New boat owner question - Hurricane season
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 6/1/25 at 1:12 pm
Have a boat and a boat lift in Galveston. What do I do with it when a hurricane approaches?
Here is what our realtor told us: If it’s a cat 1 or 2, you bring it all the way to the highest setting and tie it to cleats up on the upper deck (not down below). Anything higher than a 3 you should pull it out of the water. A few questions for you on this board
1. Does this sound like good advice?
2. What is the timing? Three days out?
3. We have nowhere to put the boat in Houston, city streets are far to narrow. Do you rent a dry slip somewhere inland??
It’s a small tidewater bay boat, and it’s located on Galveston Bay if that makes any difference

OBNOXIOUS graduation ceremony families
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 5/19/25 at 8:20 am
Just got back home from BR. Super proud of my son for slogging through some tough school years and finally earning his degree.
I was VERY lucky he was seated in the section that got called first to walk the stage. I got to hear his name called and see his image up on the big screen at PMAC. However, things got rowdy fast. Large families of 20 or 30 with motherfricking airhorns, screaming "that's my baby" for a full minute after their name was called. Then the dancing on stage, which caused a backup of the students behind them. Because there was about 30 seconds between name called and showing the name on the big screen, and no alpha order whatsoever, it created a situation where you would miss your kid walking the stage unless your eyes never left the big screen. I was seated in front of and behind two of these families. WITH AIR HORNS directly in my ear.
I think they need a "Quiet" or "Traditional" graduation ceremony, and anyone that acts like TRASH actually gets hauled off by security. How did security allow airhorns in in the first place?

Old Fashioned words
Posted by TigerBaitOohHaHa on 5/2/25 at 7:03 am
My parents grew up in rural Missouri in the 1940's and 50's but to this day use terms I don't hear in the south.
For example:
Sofa= Divan
Sink= Zinc
Dinner=Supper
Soda="Sodie-Pop"
Tennis shoes=Ground Grippers
What are some words that your family uses that are outside the common vernacular?

Still see a few around my kids' schools and had me wondering do most of these kids grow out of this phase? At what age? Any of you have any experience with it personally?

On a scale of 1 to 10, is this a "difficult" major?
What are the math requirements?
Is it a competitive major to get into as a freshman?

Only looking to hit a handful, and only those he has a decent shot of getting into.
My son really wants to go to LSU like his big brother. We have NOT been impressed by the availability or quality of housing and counseling. Also VERY put off by the crime. (its not a normal college experience to have two close friends die violent deaths or witness shootings outside of a bar)
I'd like to show my middle son some alternatives.
He's a B student, private catholic school in Houston. Athlete and has a job. Terrible ACT scores, but we are in tutoring for that now to bring them up (think low 20's).
I've got Ole Miss, Miss State, OU, Texas Tech.. What options am I missing?
His ability to get in are absolutely pertinent to the question, but disregard financial considerations.

What do Chinese REALLY think about Americans?

what do Chinese REALLY think about Americans?
the first half is cultural, no big surprises (we are tall, pale, extroverted, blah blah). The second half had to do with the election and I was floored at the Trump support. Overwhelming majority of women found him cute, funny, smart, etc.. The men thought he was a better leader. With respect to whatever bias is baked into the production of this video, I was very surprised that anyone in China felt this way about Trump. This video makes it seem like an overwhelming majority of Chinese youth have a good opinion of him. Both the assassination attempts and his slick dance moves travelled around the world and make quite an impression

I'm sure this topic has been explored on OT before.
I walk an hour every morning and want some fresh stuff to listen to. While I do enjoy current events and politics, I think I may have OD'ed on this content in the past year.
I do enjoy the "did you know?" type stuff, local history, philosophy but find many of these are 15 min long and then I'm in the woods trying to find something else to listen to.
Suggestions are appreciated.
