Does anyone have any insight into what the actual blockade might look like?

Like physically or operationally?

As in what would be required, what types of missions would be involved, how many ships, etc.

For a “blockade” in the general sense that that word is being used in this context — very little assets actually. There’s multiple destroyers in the AO as well as LCSs that will be entering shortly. Interdiction will involve deploying launches or RHIBs to board ships that have complied with Iran’s tolls. Aviation assets from the 160th likely will help and possibly deploy SOF directly onto ships. Naval patrol planes like the P-8 and drones provide realtime ISR in addition to various SIGINT and ELINT aircraft in the area to ensure no one is trying to sneak through.

The reality is that no civilian vessels will challenge it for the time being and will only begin to transit the Hormuz when the U.S. declares sea lanes open and possibly offers to escort ships through.

The ball is in Iran’s court for how they decide to respond. If they shoot at U.S. warships their launch locations will be easily targeted by standoff munitions.

If they shoot at neutral shipping then they lose all leverage.

Is there going to be a particular axis which signals (for lack of a better term) the blockade?

My guess is any ships using the non-traditional route through the Iranian “toll booth” between Larak and Qeshm islands

No, I more meant a line of control of some sorts, as the Gulf of Oman itself is quite narrow and would seemingly be in some degree of danger as well.

I mean our ships have been able to operate out of Fujairah in the UAE which is in the Gulf of Oman under an umbrella of air/interceptor cover. I guess I’m not sure what exactly you’re asking.

The main threat is mainly just Iranian drones.

That actually does answer the question. I didn't realize we were operating that close to the strait.
