re: There’s a special place in Hell

There was an infant manatee abandoned by its mother at the Marina I used to keep my boat at and a large crowd gathered around oooing and ahhing and trying to figure out what to do about it. Me and a buddy had just returned to the hill from West End with a load of Wahoo and had, of course, already taken drunk. We were joking about how tasty that thing would be in a smoker....youd have thought we had whipped our peckers out and were slapping kids in the face with them....leading us to discuss, at length, what size fly rod was best for landing Manatees. It was a blast watching folks react.....sarcasm is lost in the face of a tragedy I guess.


The Florida FWS arrived, young dude about 25 or so, and told the crowd there was nought to be done...the mother had abandoned it for some reason and it was going to die. You never heard such a caucophony of anguish. My buddy and I were in the bar late that night, as we were wont to be, and overheard several discussions about the rednecks that had killed that manatee to cook and eat it LOL!
