How does this result in anything but the people who would support us being wiped out?
One of the lessons we learned in Iraq was that we likely should have left the military intact and only taken out Saddam's secret police, like we are doing in Iran. A military who knows they could have been easily destroyed are more likely to be thankful and support what ever political leadership we allow to control the country as the oil assets.
It is my understand that the regular Army in both Iraq and Iran do not necessarily have the blood of citizens on their hands. Just a theory on my part.
