I went to a restaurant in Las Vegas for the first time in 4 months yesterday. There was one server and one bartender for the whole restaurant. They had a lot of tables with signs on them saying "This section is closed". The kitchen is also in plain view and I could only see 2 people working in there.
I sat at the bar and the bartender told me that a lot of employees quit to get the unemployment bonus and they cant get anyone to work there right now. I asked her why she didn't do the same and she said because you have to work your way up to being a bartender there and it would be dumb to give up the bartender spot.
Every fast food place I drive by has giant now hiring signs outside of them and long drive through lines. In N Out always has a long line but I am seeing In N Out length lines at places like Burger King and Jack in the Box, which I have never seen before. I have no idea how the fast food places are getting by.

We have five saw mills in Colville, Wa. near me and can't get enough workers. From what I understand from people I know that work there its tough getting people to pass a piss test. They fired half the crew several yrs ago when they first started testing.
Also about every service job is hiring, signs everywhere and those I don't think require a pee test.

Sure, low skill, low wage jobs are abundant (as they have always been) but the higher end sector is saturated with applicants.
I recently applied to a job on indeed and there were 78 other applicants.
Very true. I've been in the active job hunt for about 5 weeks now, and I've probably interviewed with 30+ companies, I've made it deep into about 8 interview processes, and haven't gotten a single offer yet.
Not only are you competing with a lot of other applicants for more experienced, higher end jobs, but you are competing with people who are willing to take the job for a lot less money, and diversity hire candidates.

If you follow trending terms on social media like "No One Wants to Work" or "Help Wanted," it's frightening to see how many deadbeats are hoping to topple the traditional models of labor in this country. Many are asking why they should return to "breaking their backs" for "slave wages" while CEOs make millions.
I see and hear this talking point all over.
"It's the business fault for not paying employees enough! There wouldnt be an employee shortage if they paid a living wage!"
I heard this come from someone at my apartment complex's pool last week.
It's not fair for businesses to have to compete against the US Government, who has bottomless pockets, no profit motive and can just print endless money.

“Getting a job” is not as easy as one may think in this economy.

Agreed.
I'm at the point of "just get a job to find a job" as someone put it to me a while back.
