What problem? Be specific.

Don't be obtuse. Be genuine.

We are talking about supposed mass shootings and gun violence

Cool, and what problem do you want me to address?

If you can't be specific, why should I?

Prior to the shooting, dick.

A little late for an intervention once he's started shooting.

I bet if you just had a conversation with this paddock prior to this, it would have been obvious the dude was a little off. Granted that alone isn't enough to justify throwing someone to the Looney bin...but he had some mental issue. A normal sane person will not do what he did.

I'm involved to an extent on the local level. It's a serious issue, we spend a ton of money on these folks with no good results. We have every type of housing and program you can ask for, except institutionalizing.

Short of locking people up, you cannot force them to continue seeking help and they don't. It's the same people, a revolving door.

You answered your own question. I'm 100% for institutionalizing people and locking them up. Hell, if enough of you think I'm crazy....lock me up.

why don't we get serious about talking about mental health.

you know, the root of the problem here.

This is the right thought line, but who gets to decide who is "mentally healthy?" Remember when medical records all got tied to your SSN? Congrats...you're tied to every medication you've been prescribed, whether you filled them or not.

Under a "mental health" descriminator, if you've ever been prescribed Xanax or the like, you're no longer able to buy a gun.

We've already seen what happens with commercial pilots. Most anti-depressants will nullify your medical. So, pilots who are normal people turn to self-medication via alcohol. Ever wonder why pilots show up drunk to fly? Because booze doesn't require a prescription. They just use it to deal with depression and fail to stop in time. It's a great case-study on how the right idea ends up leading to worse behavior.
