Why not use proven 1960's technology.
Another point here:
Manned flight requires an enormous increase of certification of safety - as it should - and STILL it is profoundly dangerous in the 20th and 21st centuries. which is a great argument for robotics UNmanned space activity
which of course gets us to the main reason for our fumbling around - that there is no focused purpose and planning for that purpose (see government bureaucracy note above)(and the kleptocrat system that runs it)
