I think they named the mountain after Ralph Stanley's band.

Yep, I remember old Clifton Clowers, too.

we've gotten around 4.5 inches up here in tazewell, i'm pretty sure i lost half the trout i stocked in the part of the bluestone river that runs through our familys property, the river isn't getting to bad yet.. but another inch or so and we may be in serious trouble

and like you said, it is only gonna get worse

i just hope we get 3-6 inches of snow so some of this water can drain out

Here ya go, Geauxt. Here are two explanation I've found for how Clinch Mountain and Clinch River got their name. Kind of interesting, too.

But several theories exist on how the Clinch River and Clinch Mountain took their names. One story says "Clinch" comes from a large, athletic hunter named Clinch (Clinche), who was thrown from his horse into the river while retreating from Indians circa 1749; Clinch managed to drown one of his Indian attackers, even after his fall. Yet another story says the name is for an Irishman who fell off a raft and cried "Clinch Me, Clinch me!"

Wondered if the river had got up on you. If the flood don't get your trout, them great blue herons will. They do like them trout...

i like the version of the mule team pulling the wagon running away with the driver and when he got to the bottom, they asked him, how he was doing? He said that he was ok, but his butt was still "clinched" up...

i think i read that on goggle..

Me and Vatiger can take you some places where this will happen frequently. Wanna go with us on a little field trip sometime?

I got some mountain land about 7 miles from here that I hunt sometimes. The "road" going up there is kind of rough in a few spots and you might could say it's kind of steep off the side of the road. I took some flatlander relatives up there on occasion and you couldn't have drove a finishin nail up their butt.
