My St. Aug is waking up and starting to green up pretty quickly. I put Headway-G down last weekend to knock out a few patches of brown patch, and I'm spot spraying some small areas of clover. Is it too early to fertilize the St. Aug, and if not, what is the best fertilizer to use? Straight nitrogen, or something else? TIA.

Too early to fertilize? Yes
Knock out brown patch - you're doing it perfect
Spot spraying clover - perfect again
St Aug, straight nitrogen - nah

Ascension parish LSU Agcenter guy told me to fertilize after the second grass cut. He told me that last fall, concerning this spring. I don’t know if the unexpected cold weather has changed things.

I need help with this too. As a first time spring-time homeowner in Lower Alabama (Baldwin County), i need all the tips.

quote:

I'm spot spraying some small areas of clover

I have large patches of large leaf "stuff". I'm not sure what it is... I can't find a good pic, but it's like 4 leaves and stays close to the ground..

edit:I have a pic on my phone. The leaves look like spring mix salad...

When should I take care of it and how? And when to fertilize? Would weed and feed take care of all of it?

So if we can't put Weed N Feed yet, what do we use on the clovers?

Any broadleaf post-emergent herbicide will work.

I prefer (and have had better success with) stuff you don't get at big box stores. I sprayed Blindside just last weekend. Blindside is very aggressive though so I am not sure I would recommend if you do not have a lot of experience (successes and failures) in application.

But you could probably use any of the following herbicides and kill your clover problem dead:

Blindside Herbicide
Tenacity Herbicide
Dismiss Turf Herbicide
Celcius WG Herbide

Just pay close attention because some of them require MORE application to kill certain clover. This is the time of year you can go on the higher end while your grass is still dormant and temps are cool.
