The reason I ask is because my subdivision pond has a ton of soft shells for some reason. I've always heard they like moving water so I don't know why they'd be in there.

Now that you say that, the ones I've caught WERE in a bayou and not in a pond.

What would you bait it with for soft shells?

Same thing. Red meat, dog food (cans with holes punched).
I took some 1 inch pvc and cut grooves in sections to keep the net stretched so I could toss it in any body of water and not have to get in to tie it to a tree and/or anchor.
Here are a few pics of them. Catch a shite load of the sliders and yellow-bellies.

Hadn't eaten Snapping Turtle in 5 years, then my buddy called me 2 weeks ago, then my parents cooked it twice last week from 2 caught near the crawfish pond.
Then my other buddy called me 2 days ago and said he has 8 pounds of meat, ready to cook he got from work offshore.
I will cook it with V8 Hot and Spicy.
Saw a buddy do that and the gravy was delicious.
I was near Johnson bayou yesterday.

My grandpaw used to boil the shell on the soft shells and eat them? I was too young to remember exactly.
The Snapping Turtles we catch here have the big ridges on the back.
I saw one at Toledo floating with several ridges coming out of the water that looked to be 4 feet or longer, thought it was a log first then I saw the nose, when we got close it dove and made a huge whirlpool. It could have easily eaten a dog.
