Looking for a place to take the family camping around Baton Rouge. Obviously nothing in or within a few minutes of the city, but up to an hour drive. Don't want to go to a place that rents cabins and all that stuff. We want to get away, pitch a tent and kind of rough it for a few days. I'd like a place I can bring my 10/22 and maybe get a few squirrels for dinner, and hopefully bring my fishing gear and catch some fish. Anyone have any spots they like to go to? I really have no clue what is around this area. Thanks.

Is there somewhere near where you can hike away from established campgrounds, or at least have to hike to them to really get away?

Check out the wild azaleas trail. It's a little further than an hour away, but worth it of you want hiking, primitive camping and fishing.

Some details here
