I bought a couple new reels for surf fishing this spring. I’ve always been a mono/flouro user, but considering changing to a 20 lb braid for added casting distance. What brand do you recommend and what would a tackle store charge for 300 yards on each? Would you recommend a mono backing? The reels are a Shimano saragosa and a Penn slammer iv.

Diamond and Nomad or both quality brands. That’s all I use.

I use Daiwa braid inshore. You could probably find a more economical option for surf fishing. You'll need quite a bit to spool up a surf reel. 30lb is probably plenty but 50lb wouldn't hurt.
