My favorite artists are based on memories. Running trot lines on Toledo at 2am with my late father, with Garth playing on the radio = burned into my soul.

No fricking shite? That's completely insane.

It's crazy, I believe you but in this article:
That dude says he took the picture.
quote:
Their bass player was a San Antonio boy named Tom Kotzur, who also happened to be a budding amateur photographer. Armed with a brand new Canon AE-1 and the strongest zoom lens he could afford on a sideman’s pay, Kotzur spent his post-performance time chronicling the headlining act, who was rapidly scaling heights the Youngers would not reach. Now 65 and working as a delivery driver in Nashville, Kotzur reached out to Texas Monthly after seeing Strait’s portrait on the cover of our June issue. He said he had old photos of the singer that had never been published, and he asked if we were interested in looking at them them. We bit. Below are some of those images, all taken as Strait was exploding in 1984, along with Kotzur’s memories of country music history in the making.

quote:Dude denies knowing the self-proclaimed image owner, and was emphatic that he would never divulge any image to anyone. He's a good man, and I'm inclined to believe him.
What happened?
However, he told me he kept a copy of each and every image he ever digitized (in case a customer damaged their CD and he could make another one). Unfortunately, his employees (mostly musicians) also had access to those files, so it might be tough determining the culprit from the local end. However, he has two people in mind.
Dude is very contrite and being helpful, and he's going to dig out his old hard drives & CDs. We're going to meet at his house Saturday for a little "delete" party, and discuss further action steps.

If he's had the pic for upwards of 10+ years mixed with many similar pics that he really did take, then he may very well believe he took it, especially considering the heavy drug use among 80's musicians and his current age. (Or he just needs money).
I don't really give a shite about use of the particular pic. My immediate concern is that there were a whole bunch of other digitized negatives that were not for public consumption...(sorry, not porn)....so I'm left wondering if more of my shite is in other people's possession.

quote:Seems like if you're telling the truth, and it appears you are (bro), then Tom Kotzur is a liar either way. Of course, he'd have much more to gain from his action (press exposure) than you in yours (fricking TD OB exposure). But your negatives are the linchpin.

quote:You're dead-on balls accurate in that assessment. I'm over being so fricking mad now (though still pretty miffed about copies being kept without my knowledge, regardless of altruistic intent), but my immediate concern is that I think there may have been some other hi-res digitized negatives that were not for public consumption (sorry, no porn or barnyard animals)....so I'm left wondering if more of my shite is in other people's possession, or worse yet, posted on the web. I'm more interested in a solution than retribution at this point.

Other decision to be made is whether or not the professed image owner needs to be contacted and start working things from that end. That will hinge on how things go this weekend.
