I have a neighbor who had it rough last several years. Mom walked out on him, was in foster care until his grandparents could formally adopt him, etc... He recently finished high school and enrolled in the Army. Just got back from boot camp and seems to be on a good path. With that said, I know he wants to build an AR when he turn 18 in a few months. Are there any issues with gifting him a lower for his 18th birthday (along with the transfer paperwork)?

The army is gonna give him one for free, lol.

Seriously get him a nice pocket knife, an AR lower is like $50 and a good pocket knife is much more useful to an 18 year old.

ETA: if you are really hung up on buying an AR component buy him the upper. It’s not a firearm and it’s the more expensive component.

Assuming texas?

Shouldnt be any issues and unless texas has a law about it you shouldnt even need to do a transfer.

If you want to avoid the perceived liability. Just get a gift certificate to like palmetto state armory or some online retailer that sells lowers.
