Mainly want to just be able to hold spots or follow contours in fairly shallow water, so I can take two kids fishing and not lose my mind.

So yeah looks like you're after what I'm after. I have the trolling motor just need the depth finder to complete the picture

So I have a 16 ft boat which is perfect for my Minn Kota powerdrive 55 thrust with iPilot. I take this thing into saltwater so i bought the RipTide version. It cost $1400 plus another $80 I think for the quick release mounting bracket. The bracket was a must have since I can take the entire unit off in seconds when I want to duck hunt. Last thing I want is a big, white $1400 trolling motor getting banged around during a hunt.

The Humminbird Helix 7 seems to be the lowest model that will connect with iPilot. It ranges I think from $500-800.

Fishing is expensive.

EDIT: OK until just this moment I didn't realize that you needed and iPilot-Link to connect to a depth finder. This not available for the Powerdrive so looks like I won't be needing the Helix 7 afterall.
