I hear that AllStar rods are now owned by Shakespear. No longer the rod the of the days past
With all due respect, what has changed? Is the blank of lesser quality now? handles? what?
rod components are simple and have only improved over the years. The same inexpensive guide or handle today was a premium, high dollar one a couple years ago.

The whole basis of what people are saying is the new ones are not their rods of 8 years ago. I agree. Every rod I own is an all star. Most of them being classics. The older ones were great. The new classics to me feel different. I don’t like the action. I won’t get one. I don’t think anyone is disputing the old ones were good.

I had a friend who was in the buying dept years ago for Academy.
Back around 2003 or 2004 Allstar in Houston, TX went under. Academy, who Allstar owed a lot of money to for credits on returns took the name. Academy went to China and found rod mfg’s to make rods putting the Allstar name one them.
I have not kept up with what happened after that.
When this happened I bought 30 original Allstar Rod Blanks in the sizes I liked. I only had 1 rod blank break on me since 2003. The guides maybe worn which I cut off and replace the guides no big deal.
