Then why the hell were they trying Top Kill? It's not making sense to my dumb arse I guess. The riser was responsible for holding the pressure at the top when they were trying top kill and it did just fine.

When the riser is cut, and there is about a foot of riser left one the top, shove a pipe down inside of it and the BOP and seal to the inside of the riser that's left and pump the mud down the well, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE HOPING WOULD HAPPEN WITH TOP KILL except for losing so much out of the current leaks.

Why not try it, it wouldn't take that long, IMHO, which is a limited opinion at best.

The riser wasn't holding squat. The obstruction in the BOP was and it wasn't holding much of anything. They were basically trying an open ended kill job.

They were hoping the BOP would hold enough back pressure to get some mud downhole. It didn't.

They were tied into the choke and kill lines which are below the pipe/shear rams and annular preventers and all that is below the riser.
