This isn't new or anything. When a cop has you pulled over or has suspicion of a crime - I don't know all the bullshite legal terms - he has the right to detain you for a moment to search for weapons for the officer's protection. If you make multiple movements and that seem like you are going for a gun, ignore instructions, and there is reasonable suspicion of you having a gun then you may get shot.

The cop should first and foremost secure the suspects and make sure everything is safe, then proceed with questioning.

This John Wayne decided it was a good idea to walk up to a car full of people, one of whom was a known armed meth head felon, by himself without backup and open the back door and not tell anyone to get out the car.

And backup arrived what? less than a minute after he shot the guy? He couldnt have waited?

The car was stopped, facing a wall, and the suspects werent running.

The cop made a series of terrible decisions that ended in him killing an unarmed man.

Our police need to be trained better in both tactics and restraint.

Ya drug dealers involved in crimes the day before couldn't possibly have a gun in their wasteband. You are simply foolish.

Not as foolish as that cop.

Drug dealers, convicts, soccer moms, and I all have the same exact rights in this country in regards to police interactions.

Certainly could have been handled better. But like in any other industry you get what you pay for with cops and they don't get paid shite. I'm all for paying more, by until we do, and also ramp up training - which also costs money - I don't think you can put a cop in jail without intent or gross negligence. He made the mistake of not waiting but I don't think you put someone in jail for that.

You put him in jail because he murdered an unarmed citizen.

That has nothing to do with rights but rather the perceived threat level by the cop.

The cop was nervous before he got out his squad car. He had his hand on his gun from the moment he stepped into the frame. He should at the very least be fired, publicly reprimanded, lose a civil suit, and this should be used in every police training as an example of what not to do on every level.

perceived threat

and that's the rub. the cop "thought" the guy had a gun and shot him.

that wasn't reality, but that is what the cop "thought"
looked like a scared cop.

That was the driver. Not sure how the cop would've known anything about the rear passenger side guy. Keep that in mind.

The officer didn't know the wanted felon was in the car until after he made contact with them. He then recognized the wanted felon and told dispatch to have units step it up.

Watch the video. When he recognizes "Richard" he asks dispatch to have backup step it up.

Wow.

That cop should be in jail

Why? You think he randomly decided to pull over someone to get his blood lust craving for the day? If a cop tells you 5 times to get your hands up with his gun drawn on you and you keep reaching for your pocket, then he tells you he will shoot you if you don't, and you still keep reaching for your pocket.....he's gonna shoot you.
