There’s logical reasons for Denmark to give up Greenland. But yeah, they’re never willingly going to give in to Trump.
It's not Denmarks to give or the US to take. It is up to the citizens of Greenland to decide and they have made it clear that they aren't interested in either option if a change is going to be made.

Guess I'm looking at this weird. I look at it like a real estate development deal. You've got a bunch of trailers on a nice piece of land. Now they own their pads and it's right next to a pond with good fishing. You've got to pay to get them to move or sign off on your development. So you offer them a cash payout or a brand new home in your development next to that same pond. Now you have to deal with the rich family that controls the easement on the adjacent property because construction equipment isn't covered under the original agreement. So you pay them off and promise they can tie in to your fiber internet when it's up and running.
I realize geopolitics are more complex. But this seems like a simple land deal.
Eta: Denmark is the high school graduate that inherited a 500 acre tract of land from his grandaddy. He's got plans for that land... someday. But he's not ever going to do shite with it because he doesn't know how, so just pay them the cash.

The US occupied Greenland in WWII and offered to buy it for $100 million in gold bars in 1946 and several times since.
