When my parents' first grandchild was born, they kept him during the day when his mother went back to work. They had a big alpha male lab, a field champion, as tough as they come. He had a scar on his head from trying to crawl under a fence to fight another dog. He wouldn't listen to you unless he respected you and by this time he was older and kind of grouchy.
When my mother would put the baby down for a nap, he would lie down by the crib and wouldn't move as long as the baby was sleeping. Nobody told him to, he just did it. I tear up a little just thinking about it. RIP Chief.
