What exactly is meetup?

Was sitting next to a married co-worker who had his laptop open and he kept getting meetup emails. Is it sorta like tinder and company?

It's where you find groups of people to do shite with. When I moved to LA, I didn't know anyone. I joined a pickup basketball group on there. It was cool. I would only use it moving across the country though, not in my hometown.
