OP if you dont want to just accept the violation go to your court date representing yourself and say what you just said

Depending on how you are dressed and act they will either throw it out or just take the fine without points

Thats all you have to do. You can even talk to the poor sap that gets the job representing the state in these dumbass cases. An offer for a beer will get it tossed around here.
