I have a math problem to solve. It's basic but I'm having difficulty figuring this out. I've had help with this and been given different equations with different answers. Figured I would ask our math residents of the OT Lounge.
1. What grade are you in, 5th?
2. Don't come on here asking us to do your homework for you, that's your dad's job.
3. If you are in a grade higher than 5th, enjoy your future art degree.

I got 55 seconds.
The group is walking at a pace of 3136 inches a minute (112 x 28).
The group has to travel 80 yards total (50 yards from point A to B plus the length of the group) and there are 36 inches in a yard. So the total number of inches the group has to travel is 2,880 (80 yards x 36 inches per yard)
Then you divide the total distance by their pace to get their time (2,880/3136=.918) Since there are 60 seconds in a minute you multiply .918 by 60 and get 55.10 seconds.

Just figure out how long it will take the last person to walk from 30 years behind point a to point b

Stop doing your kid's 3rd grade homework for him!

It will take them just over 55 seconds.
i like how you don't explain a single number in your conversion to the guy asking for help, but you're more than happy to elaborate on the obvious fact that because it's 55.1, it'll take just over 55 seconds.

He asked for an equation. I gave him an equation. Several others had already expounded on it.
And the answer is NOT 55.1 seconds. The group will still be short of point B in 55.1 seconds. The exact answer requires many more decimal places.
Congrats on getting the problem wrong, a-hole.

55.2 seconds
112*28=3136 inches per minute
3136/36
=87.1 yards per minute
87.1/60=1.45 yards per second or .69 seconds/yard.
group is 30 long plus 50 length, so group is really 80 yards long, so .69 seconds x 80 yards= 55.2 seconds.
