OD is apparently updating/expanding from their current location in Baton Rouge to support Amazon. Good for them.

The other place is already there, but they are expanding.

Hopefully this means more jobs for the area. The Amazon robotics center has seen delays in opening due to the pandemic, but they should be staffed up by summer. Not everyone in south Louisiana can work in oil/gas or in a plant.

A 19-acre property off Tom Drive near the former Cortana Mall site has sold for $2.4 million.

Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., represented in the deal by its officer, C.E. Overby Jr., bought the property from Flor-Line Associates LLC, the former owner of Cortana Mall, according to documents filed with the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court’s office. North Carolina-based Old Dominion currently operates a local office on Choctaw Drive.

The deal has been in the works for more than a year, according to public records. The managers of Flor-Line initially agreed to sell the property for $2.2 million, or $2.78 per square foot, in spring 2022.

This is the latest deal to close in the Cortana area, which has seen a flurry of interest since Amazon started building its fulfillment center on the former site of the shopping mall. The fulfillment center is expected to eventually employ up to 3,500 full- and part-time workers.

In 2021, the Metro Council voted to create the Cortana Corridor Economic District and East Baton Rouge Parish officials are currently developing a master plan for the area to boost economic development along the Florida Boulevard corridor.

Last year, a local developer bought land in the area with plans to build a Starbucks. Flor-Line also sold 17 acres in the area in September to Crescent Crown as the alcohol distributor moves forward with expansion plans.
