Fought in modern day Czech Republic, the engagement was also known as the Battle of the Three Emperors as the emperors Napoleon of France, Alexander I of Russia, and Francis II of Austria were all present on the field. The defeat of the combined Russo-Austrian army would lead to the defeat of the Third Coalition and the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire after having endured for more than 1,000 years.
