I read an article (sorry, can't find it now) about how shitty his contract is. He is only getting paid like $350,000 for releasing an album, $1,000 per day for recording and $1,000 per master recording that is completed. Sounds like a sweet deal but then you realize part of that $350,000 is considered an "advance" based on what he ends up making on royalties. So he really only starts making new money when his royalties top $350,000 and in this music climate there is no telling how long that will take or if it even will happen. He also has to pay for 50% of his marketing. I wouldn't want to win this show anymore. The Voice is much better, they have yet to create a real star but those artists continue to get mentoring from their coaches after the show and can much more easily control their careers and make a decent living off of it despite not winning or becoming a huge star.

As far as successful idols, there is no question. You have Kelly and Carrie and then a huge gap and you have Daughtry and Adam. The only thing about Daughtry is that he hasn't done anything in a long time that I am aware of while the other three are all still releasing music, touring, etc. Kelly is having a 2nd surge being on The Voice and having her own talk show starting in the Fall. She has played it smart. Her time as a pop star is long gone so she seamlessly shifted her career while still being able to release music.
